I am an English girl living in Brussels. During the day I work with the EU, but in my spare time I am a self-taught cake decorator.
My love of baking started with my Mum. She is an amazing baker. Growing up she spoiled me and my siblings with delicious homemade baked goods and novelty birthday cakes. I remember flicking through the Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book every year, deciding which cake I wanted.
I made a few cakes for friends’ birthdays during my university years, but it wasn’t until I moved to Brussels in 2009, that I really got into baking and cake decorating. When a friend suggested we buy a cake from the supermarket for another friend’s birthday, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. Buy a generic supermarket birthday cake?! I wouldn’t allow that, so I set about making my first novelty birthday cake – a football pitch.
Being the perfectionist that I am, I saw all my mistakes and knew I could do better. Since then, I have googled and youtubed my way through numerous cakes including a football stadium, a guitar, a nutella jar, a globe on top of a suitcase, a Super Mario cake and of course not to forget the gumpaste Christian Louboutin stiletto. You can check them all out in my photo gallery.
Having spent the last couple of years baking and decorating cakes for my friends and family, I finally decided to start a blog to share some of my recipes and successful bakes. I hope you enjoy looking at my cakes as much as I enjoy making them!
